What we've been up to

I haven't updated my blog in so long because I've been out having fun with new friends and enjoying the island!  Corey is still staying pretty busy with work, but we've managed to get out on the weekends.  Let's see if I can remember some of the stuff we've been doing since I last updated.

*We started a small garden on our balconey!  Since I've never been good at keeping plants alive, I have trial plants right now.  I got a few small plants and if I'm able to keep them alive, I'll be able to get more and expand my garden!  We also planted some seeds, but that is just proving to me that Corey is the one with the green thumb.  His seeds are already sprouting through the soil and mine is taking it's sweet time.

*I finally got to meet Kara from The Ramblings of a Marine Wife.  I started following her blog when we moved out here to Okinawa, and one day she posted about her husband coming out here.  Then a few weeks later she posted that she and her kids would be getting to join him!  I wrote her saying I was out here, and we started talking.  Eventually we figured out that our husbands work together...actually their offices are next door to eachother!  They invited us over for dinner one night and we finally met in person....and of course we forgot to take a picture!  We will be hanging out soon though, so we'll make sure to get a picture together.

*I joined NIOSC (North Island Officer's Spouses Club).  Every month there is a coffee for everyone to get together, and then later in the month is a field trip.  Last month our field trip was to the Himeyuri Peace Memorial and Museum.  You can learn about it here.  We were lucky enough to speak to a survivor of the events and it was interesting to here her side of the story.  She was only 17 during the war and lived through things I couldn't begin to imagine.

*We have decorated for Halloween together!  Our parents sent us awesome packages with Halloween decorations, and we've put them all to good use in our apartment!  The BX and PX out here have limited decorations, so it was nice to get things that aren't like what everyone else on the island has!

Right now Corey is attending some meetings back in the states, so this week I'm spending time with the girls in our tower!  We painted pumkpins tonight, and I'm trying to set up a "Sorbet night" so we can finally use the ice cream maker that Corey's parents sent us!  Inu isn't too happy about Corey being gone, but he's also got a cold right now, so he's mostly just sleeping during the day.  :(

I'll leave you with a couple of pictures of the pumpkins from tonight!

My neighbor's pumpkin
Check out the EGA the painted...so cool!

My pumpkin!  He has a little bowtie on and rosey cheeks.
My other neighbor named him Billy because we both
have brothers named Billy!
