Friday Fill-In

Aside from no deployments, what is one thing you would want to make the MilSpouse life "perfect"?
I would love if we could pick our duty stations.  There are definitely some places I never want to end up.

Just how many peppers did Peter Piper pick?
Umm...a peck of them

If you could have any career in the world with nothing holding you back, what would you do?
My dream job is to be a pediatric nurse.  It's a little hard to work on that out here, so when we get back to the states I'll be going back to school.

Do you have a service oriented tattoo and if so what is it. If you don't what would you get?
I do not have one, and I don't think I would get one.  I have 2 tattoos and I think I'm done.

Imagine a block of time has opened up in your busy day for you to take a class in anything you like. What subject would you choose?
I would love to take a culinary class.  I just started cooking in the past couple of years and I think it would be fun to learn more.

Sick of being sick

Hubby left just over a week ago and all of a sudden I end up in the ER twice!  What is going on??
I personally hate going to the hospital...I would much rather sleep everything off.  When the husband is gone though, my friends are around to watch over me...and my friends don't take no for an answer.  When they saw me crying through headaches and stomach pain, one got dressed and spent 3 hours in the ER while the other took care of our dogs.
The first trip mostly just annoyed me.  I spent an hour and a half in the waiting room before they finally took me back to an exam room.  Then some frat boy nurse with a toothpick in his mouth wrote down my symptoms and promised a docotr would be right in.  We waited for an hour...no doctor.  Finally a tech came in and said he was taking me to X-ray.  I asked him what they wanted to x-ray and he said he would check.  He came back in the room and said "whoops, wrong room!"  SERIOUSLY??  The doctor finally came in, told me it was probably bad migraines and gave me some meds to get through the night until I could see my PCM at the clinic.
The next day I saw my PCM and he confirmed the migraines and said that the stomach pains were the stomach flu.  Awesome..NOT.  He gave me a different migraine med and also something for the nausea.  I was instructed to keep to a bland diet and rest.
I couldn't eat...or drink...anything.  Everytime I took a sip of water or a bite of food, my stomach cramped up and I felt so sick.
A few days of this and my friends ganged up on me again and traded jobs.  I only spent maybe half an hour in the waiting room before they called me back, gave me some nasty pill for the nausea, and took me to a curtained area.  They wanted to do blood work and start an IV for fluids.  I think the poor girl who did the blood work and IV was nervous.  She couldn't get the needle all the way in, almost couldn't get enough blood (I'm sure taking the band off my arm would've helped), and completely froze when I told her I was getting dizzy and thought I was going to throw up.  My blood work came back fine, the chest x-ray was fine, and I ended up dehydrated and as the doctor put it "one of the unfortunate people who has to suffer through the stomach flu for up to 10 days"
I'm finally feeling better and can actually eat!  Woohoo!  I had my follow up appointment today and my PCM said I should be 100% by the weekend.
Hubby and I joke that instead of any of our appliances or cars breaking while he's gone, I started to break.  He is so sweet though, and had flowers delivered to me yesterday!  How great is he?!?

Friday Fill-In

What is your favorite MilSpouse blog (not including Wife of a Sailor who we all love, or your own)?

I'm really not sure I can pick one. Everyone has their own style and I like them all!

What are your favorite perks about your s/o being deployed (we all know there are perks)?

I haven't been through a deployment yet.  We have one coming up this year though.  I do know that when hubby is gone training, I enjoy the house staying cleaner and the fact that I eat a lot less when he's not around!
How long did you date your before getting engaged? Married?

Hubby and I dated 7 months before we got engaged and then we got married less than a month later.  Neither of us wanted a big wedding, so it worked out!  We had to do everything quickly so that getting me on his orders to Okinawa would be easier
What do you think your would do if s/he wasn’t in the military?

I've only know him in the military and it's hard to imagine him doing anything else.  He wants to make it a career, so it's fitting for him.

If you could talk to the Secretary of the Navy what is one suggestion you would like to bring to their attention in order to improve the lives of military families?

I don't have any major complaints at this point.  I knew I would spend a lot of time with him, I knew our housing wouldn't be amazing, and I grew up a military brat, so I am used to a lot of it.

Valentines Day

We're not too big on Valentines Day, but we decided to celebrate a little anyway.  Hubby was supposed to leave for training on Sunday morning, so we celebrated on Friday with cards and candy (of course we got each other the same box of candy).  Well turns out the departure date got moved back so I ended up getting to spend Valentines day with hubby!

He got off work early and decided to surpise me with these:

Aren't they beautiful?! I've never gotten flowers that big before!

Then we wanted to make dinner together and chose to make this:

Penne Rustica!  It was delicious and will definitely be made many more times in our house!  Hubby spent some time after dinner doing some last minute packing for his training and then we enjoyed a few episodes of

We both loved the show when it was airing so we bought the box set. It arrived in the mail yesterday so we thought it was perfect to spend Valentines night watching it!

This morning I drove him up to work and said bye for a month.  I've got a few girl's night dinners planned and lots of sewing projects to work on.  I've also decided part of my upcoming giveaway will be something I've made, so as soon as it's completed, I'll post my giveaway!

I hope everyone had a great Valentines Day!

Superbowl Monday

Yes, you read correctly...Superbowl MONDAY.  Since we're so far ahead of the states, the football game started at 8:30 this morning for us.  The guys had today off of work to watch the game, so we all got our butts up early to watch.  None of us really liked either team playing (in fact they are two of my least favorite teams), but we couldn't just skip the game!  Luckily there was something we were all looking forward to...

Friends, that item you are drooling over is called a Horseshoe.  It's Texas toast with a hamburger pattie on top, then topped with fries and a cheese sauce.  Can you delicious??  Technically the picture is of a pony shoe...a horseshoe would be two slices of toast and two hamburger patties, but I couldn't eat that much.  I didn't even finish that plate!

In other new, I got a sewing machine this week!  Growing up I never learned to use one, so I have always been too intimidated to try.  There are too many fun things to make though, so I gave in and bought my machine.  I looked up some videos online so I could learn to thread it and use it, and I got to work!  My first creation?  A pillow!

It's not perfect, but I think I did alright for my first one!  Next up is either a simple apron or cafe curtains for my kitchen.  I'm going shopping for fabric this week, so we'll see what I find!

50 Follwers!

I finally have 50 follwers!  This is a big deal to me...when I started this blog, I really only expected my family and close friends to follow it.  This time last week I only had 30 something follwers.  I made the decision to get more involved with my blog and have gained a number of new follwers this past week!  To celebrate I think will have a giveaway!  Look out for it in the next week or so!  I'll head out and see what beautiful Okinawa can offer to a lucky winner!  Thank you all of my old and new follwers!

Friday Fill-In

1. Since most of the country has had nasty weather, what has your weather been like this week?

Weather here hasn't been nearly as bad as I hear about in the states!  We've had a few rainy days, but our temps are still in the 50s and 60s.  I love island weather!

2. What is/are your best money saving tip(s)?
I get emails from different stores telling me when they're having their sales.  I rarely pay full price on clothes and other items.  If there is a coupon code to use, I try my hardest to find it!

3. What was your favorite vehicle you’ve ever owned??
Oddly enough, I think it's the one I have now.  All my other cars gave me a lot of problems, but my RAV4 has been great.  It isn't bad on gas, it carried everything we've needed it to so far, and it's bigger than my husband's, so I get to feel powerful! =)

4. What is a question you’d like to see asked in a future fill-in? (Your question & blog just may appear one week!)
What is the proudest moment you've had as a military spouse?

5. Fill in the blank: You might be a MilSpouse if….
You automatically pull out your ID to get to where you live and it doesn't phase you when there are guys guarding the gate with rifles.
